Help me grow!
- Keep me in the most brightly-lit room of your house, but also away from being put too near the windows where direct light might fall on me.
- You can grow me indoors under artificial grow lights. LED lights are the most recommended ones for plants like me, as they are efficient and environmentally friendly.
- I like my soil to be in a constant semi-moist state. This means that you are required to water me often but with just a little quantity each time.
- Plant me in a well-draining soil and into a good air circulatory pot. The potting mix used should be an equal ratio of regular potting mix, peat and perlite.
- Feed me with a liquid fertilizer and dilute it to one-fourth of its original strength. To avoid fertilizer burns, water me first before fertilizing each time.
- To conserve my much-needed energy, prune off all the dead, yellow and decaying leaves and make sure I look neat and healthy all the time.
- Propagate me either by using stem cuttings or by taking offset divisions. The best time to do this is during the warmer months of the year (early spring or summertime).
FAQs
- Why do you see brown spots on my leaves, roots and/or stems?
This may have been caused due to root rot, which is a fungal disease that occurs as a result of overwatering, lack of air circulation or poor drainage of water or the pot. - What to do when you see wet, brown spots appearing on my leaves surrounded by a yellow halo?
If the soil is left too wet and soggy for rather long periods of time, I may succumb to bacterial leaf spot disease. Unfortunately, you cannot save me once I am infected with such a disease. In fact, the quicker you get rid of me, the better. - Why are the leaves turning brown and crispy?
I am not very tolerant of direct sunlight and even short-term exposure can cause significant damage. Take me away from direct sunlight and prune the leaves that are most severely affected off me. Hopefully, I will recover and new leaves will sprout again. - Am I safe for pets?
No, I am toxic and poisonous to animals.
